Why traders look for Stonk Journal alternatives

Every trade is typed

There is no broker sync — fills are entered by hand, or uploaded by CSV on Pro. Sync is listed as roadmap.

No native apps

Stonk Journal is an installable web app rather than an App Store or Google Play app.

A log, not a review

It records trades well but does not walk you through reviewing them.

Stonk Journal vs TradeReview: pick by how your trades get in

You trade often enough that typing is the bottleneck

Twenty fills a session means twenty manual entries after the close in Stonk Journal. TradeReview Pro syncs them; Basic takes a CSV.

TradeReview

You want the review, not just the log

Review Sessions walk unreviewed trades, Discipline scores rule-following, Strategies hold checkable rules. Stonk Journal records well but does not run the loop for you.

TradeReview

You have never kept a journal and will not pay to find out

No card, no cap, no ads, every core feature: trade log, stats, P&L calendar, risk rules, multi-account, share links. Nothing in this category is cheaper than free.

Stonk Journal lists broker sync as roadmap rather than shipped. If it lands, the import row on this page changes — we will re-review.

The four differences worth reading about

The decisive row

Does Stonk Journal connect to your broker?

No. Every trade is entered by hand on the free plan; Pro adds CSV import with column mapping. Broker sync is described as roadmap, not shipped.

TradeReview Auto Sync pulls fills from cTrader, Alpaca, eToro, Interactive Brokers, MetaTrader 5 and TradeLocker and 459 MT5 brokers on Pro, with file import from Basic. This is where most journaling habits actually die — not in the analysis, in the data entry after a long session. If you trade twice a week, manual is fine. If you trade twice an hour, it is not.

Log versus loop

Is a free journal enough?

Stonk Journal gives you an honest, complete trade log for nothing: stats, a P&L calendar, risk rules, setups, multiple accounts. For proving to yourself that journaling helps, that is genuinely enough.

What it does not do is make you review. TradeReview queues unreviewed trades into Review Sessions, scores how often you followed your own rules, and ties every trade to a named Strategy with a checklist. Most traders do not fail at recording — they fail at going back.

Where Stonk Journal wins

Is anything actually free here?

Theirs is. No card, no trial clock, no trade limit, no ads, all market types — the free plan is the product, funded by donations and a $10/mo Pro tier that adds AI Coach, AI Chat, Smart/CSV import and an all-accounts roll-up. No annual plan is listed on the pricing section as of this check.

TradeReview Free also takes no card and has no trade cap, but CSV starts at Basic and Auto Sync at Pro. If your budget for this is zero and it will stay zero, Stonk Journal is the honest recommendation and we will say so.

Not a tie

Can you journal on your phone?

Stonk Journal is an offline-first PWA you can install on mobile or desktop, but there is no native iOS or Android App Store build — and hand-entering fills in a mobile browser is still the least forgiving version of its main workflow.

TradeReview ships native apps on both stores with the full journal, Review Sessions and the Discipline widget. Combined with Auto Sync, the phone review becomes a two-minute pass rather than a data-entry chore.

The verdict

TradeReview or Stonk Journal?

Stonk Journal is the better trading journal if cost decides everything, and TradeReview is the better one if manual entry is what made you quit before. As of 2 October 2026, Stonk Journal's free tier is the full product (unlimited trades, stats, a P&L calendar, risk rules and multi-account support), and its only paid tier, Pro at $10/mo, adds CSV import and an AI coach. Every trade is typed in by hand, broker sync is on its roadmap rather than shipped, and it runs on the web only. TradeReview's Free plan is multi-market manual logging with no card; Basic at $9.90/mo ($99/yr) adds broker file and CSV import, and Pro at $19.90/mo adds Auto Sync, 20 accounts and 10 GB of storage. TradeReview also has native iOS and Android apps and a structured review loop: Review Sessions, a Discipline score and Strategies.

Common questions

What is the best Stonk Journal alternative?

TradeReview if you want broker Auto Sync, mobile apps and a guided review while keeping a free plan; TradesViz for free stock imports and deep stats; TraderSync or Tradervue for broad import at a higher price.

Is there a Stonk Journal alternative with broker sync?

Yes. TradeReview syncs supported brokers on Pro ($19.90/mo); TraderSync, Tradervue (from Silver) and TradeZella also import automatically, at higher prices.

Is Stonk Journal really free?

Yes. Unlimited trades, all market types, no card and no ads, funded by donations and an optional $10/mo Pro tier (AI Coach, AI Chat, Smart/CSV import, all-accounts roll-up). It is one of the few free tiers in this category that is not a trial.

Does Stonk Journal import from brokers?

Not automatically. Free is manual entry; Pro adds CSV import with column mapping. Broker sync is listed as roadmap. TradeReview has Auto Sync on Pro and CSV from Basic.

Why pay TradeReview when Stonk Journal is free?

For sync, native apps and a review process — Review Sessions, a Discipline score and Strategies with checkable rules. If none of those solve a problem you have, do not pay us.

Which is better for beginners?

Either. Stonk Journal has the lower barrier; TradeReview Free is also uncapped and no-card, and gives you a structured review from day one plus a path to sync later.

Do both support options and futures?

Yes. Stonk Journal covers all market types including multi-leg options on the free plan. TradeReview covers stocks, options, futures, forex and crypto on every plan.

Does either have trade replay?

No. Neither has bar replay or a simulator. If replay is a requirement, TradesViz Platinum is the one to compare against instead.
